New Work Placement Opportunities

As part of the REM Business Plan 2009/2011, the more traditional routes of entry into the sector will be challenged by offering time limited work placement opportunities for new and emerging graduates within host museums. REM is inviting interest from museums that may be interested in applying to become a host.

In order to apply to become a host, museums need to have a specific piece of work or project in mind that can be completed within a six-month period. This could include projects on collections, education, museum development, digitisation, interpretation etc. Each host will receive £15,555 for each work placement. This funding needs to cover any specific requirements of the project itself, plus cover the ‘expenses’ of the work placement applicant. As a consequence these placements offer hosts the opportunity to have additional capacity within their organisation to help develop their project.

This valuable work experience is aimed at developing skills and networking opportunities in order to facilitate future employment prospects and contacts. In addition, it will also give applicants invaluable experience to set themselves up as freelancers in the sector. The new graduates will be employed by host museums on a freelance basis.

If you are interested in becoming a host museum, please complete the attached application form. If successful, details of your project will be advertised in local universities with your contact details. Each host museum will be responsible for its own recruitment and contracts with the applicant.

If you require further information, or would like to discuss further, please contact Wendy Moore, REM Regional Workforce Development Officer, 01522 526905, wendy.moore@lincolnshire.gov.uk.

'Living Places' Partnership seminar
Thursday 3 December, 9:00am-1:00pm (inc lunch). Newark Town Hall
This autumn, in every region in England, culture and sports policy professionals and local and regional planners will come together for the first time to learn together how to ensure that leisure, arts and heritage provision can be built into regeneration and development plans. Each seminar will be chaired by a regional expert in culture and sports planning, and will feature a high-profile keynote speaker with a track record in implementing strategies for improving local areas.

The seminar aims to: raise awareness of the ‘Living Places’ Toolkit; and to provide an opportunity for dialogue between cultural officers and planners. The Living Places Culture and Sport Planning Toolkit (CSPT) is an essential source of information and advice for all practitioners involved in culture and planning. It provides practical guidance to incorporate planning for culture and sport into new and existing developments. This free Continuing Professional Development event will provide the opportunity to share ideas and experiences and encourage the development of local and regional networks to sustain improved practice across regions.
