EmmS/REM PRACTITIONERS PANEL There are four places available at the next EmmS Practitioners Panel meeting, on Wednesday 26 November, at Nottingham Castle Museum & Art Gallery. The meeting starts at 10.30am, and topics include: Green Museums; Cultural Olympiad plans for the East Midlands; and Working with Universities. After a buffet lunch, there will be an opportunity to visit Brewhouse Yard Museum see the two recently opened galleries, Growing Up In Nottingham and Discovering Toys. REGIONAL WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES Booklets of the new Renaissance East Midlands (REM) Workforce Development & Training Programme 2008/9 have now been circulated. MIDLANDS FEDERATION SEMINAR Prioritising other people’s priorities: advocacy and government Tuesday 18 November 2008. Bantock House & Park, Wolverhampton. This seminar will provide an important opportunity for those working in museums to take stock of current priorities and look at how museums can advocate their case to decision makers at different levels. Regardless of whether or not museums agree with government priorities, they cannot afford to remain in ignorance of them. Lunch and refreshments are provided. JOB VACANCIES IN THE REGION Buxton Museum & Art Gallery Delivery of Duke of Devonshire online educational activities project Invitation to tender Buxton Museum and Art Gallery wishes to appoint an education freelancer to work with a small project team to develop e-learning resources based on the outcomes from the Andrew Cavendish, 11th Duke of Devonshire exhibition and related workshops. Ideas for content of the resources will be provided by the project team, consisting of museum and library staff and members of the Friends of Buxton Museum and Art Gallery. The online resources will be hosted on the Learn with Museums website (www.learnwithmuseums.org.uk). The reserve budget sum available is up to £2200, including all travel, expenses and VAT; payment will be made upon completion of work. All work must be completed by 13 February 2009. MLA East Midlands & Renaissance East Midlands Then and Now – part of the Igniting Ambition programme Project Leader & Project Coordinator Then and Now is an exciting project planned as part of the regional Igniting Ambition programme in the East Midlands. It will explore identity through fashion and seeks to engage a wide range of diverse communities, resulting in the collection and exhibition of items of everyday and sports fashion of 1989 and 2009. The project seeks region wide engagement and will initially result in a high profile exhibition as part of the Special Olympics programme in Leicester during July/August 2009. To deliver the project, MLA East Midlands and Renaissance East Midlands seek the following second personnel or freelancers (for the fixed term period January to September 2009): Project Leader (including curatorial role) – with overall responsibility to manage successful delivery of the project. A reserved budget sum of up to £17,500 is available. Project Coordinator – to support project delivery and facilitate community involvement and engagement, including the recruitment, management and support of up to ten community curators. The post is offered on a contract for an average 2 days per week with a reserved budget sum of up to £6,666 available. There is the possibility for these posts to be appointed on a secondment basis and funds would be made available to the employer of the seconded person (s). New Posts at Northampton Borough Council Working towards a brighter future Events Officer (Market Square) £26,706 - £28,270 pa Ref: 301 The Council is looking for someone with events management experience to take on a new role that is key to the regeneration of the town. The appointee will help bring the town centre to life by developing, organising, and publicising a programme of events for Northampton's market square. S/he will also work towards generating income from these events. Dynamic and imaginative, with the enthusiasm, diplomacy, and charisma to deal effectively with all the partners and stakeholders involved, the successful candidate will bring a proven track record in events management. A flair for marketing, project planning, organisation, and teamwork will also be essential. Closing date: 21 November 2008. Collections Access Officer (Northampton Museum and Art Gallery) £16,941 - £18,882 pa pro rata Ref: 303 22 hours per week, 3 days a week, part-time as job share The Museum is looking for an enthusiastic, versatile and confident communicator with a creative and methodical approach to project planning, to deliver collections access initiatives that will widen participation and help develop new audiences for the museum service. The successful candidate will have experience of working with diverse groups, including young people, families or other community Groups, and of initiating and delivering projects with a range of organisations. The role will also involve developing and delivering outreach activities, liaising with youth and regeneration agencies, administering budgets, generating income through project funding and grant applications, fostering partnerships, increasing access to the museum's collections and bringing new audiences into the museum service.
